This exquisite butterfly is pretty small – from just over ½ inch wide to just under an inch wide. It is grey overall with a few orange and white scales forming a distinct pattern, and has tiny tails on the hindwing. It will nectar on the shrub Bebbia juncea, a rayless Composite that is a native plant found in several states in the South West including California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.
Additional information about host plants, other nectar plants, and range can be found on Butterflies and Moths. A complete set of images can be found at Butterflies of America.
