There are 12 species of Aurinia, a member of the Brassicaceae family. This plant, Aurinia saxatillis, is a cultivated perennial that also goes by the name MADWORT. It grows to nearly a foot tall, thrives in Zones 3-9, can grow from seeds, and prefers dry to moderate watering. It is also suitable to grow in a container.

Aurinia attracts three butterflies to feed: Anthocharis stella, Stella Orangetip, Anthocharis thoosa, Southwestern Orangetip, and Euchloe hyantis, California Marble. Bees have been observed nectaring on this plant.

Container plants that attract adult butterflies - perennial

This plant can be grown in a container and will attract and feed adult butterflies. These plant can be found in every height range – from tiny to large – from less than a foot high to over 10 feet tall.
