There are 118 species of Phlox, a member of the Polemoniaceae family. Phlox subulata thrives in Zones 7-9. It grows to nearly 1/2' high by 2' wide, produces violet flower in spring and summer, and can be grown from seed. It prefers moderate watering. P. subulata can be grown in a container, prefers to be grown in full sun, and attract hummingbirds to feed.

Container plants that attract adult butterflies - perennial
